Story

Every day, campus dining halls discard hundreds of perfectly good, untouched meals. This isn’t just a missed opportunity; it’s an ethical and environmental failure. Simultaneously, food insecurity remains a major challenge among students and the local community. The sheer volume of this daily campus waste—often totaling thousands of dollars worth of food per week at a single university—needs a smart solution.

Our Solution: Smart, Seamless Redistribution

The Campus FoodShare App is the digital bridge between this massive surplus and those who need it most.

Our team is developing a proprietary application that achieves three key goals:

  1. Automated Alert System: We are integrating our app with major U.S. university dining management systems to receive real-time alerts the moment surplus food is identified.
  2. Targeted Notifications: The app then instantly alerts nearby pre-vetted shelters, non-profits, and registered food-insecure students of the quantity and location of the available food.
  3. Logistics Tracking: The platform provides a simple, tracked handoff system, ensuring safe and timely collection, maximizing the food’s freshness, and minimizing liability for the dining hall.
